 Fearless Forecast - Final Forecast

Congratulations to T-Rex on winning this year's Fearless Forecast! We were tied going into the final week, and he had a great week, picking 11 out of 12 games correctly (for the second week in a row) to go ahead by 2 points.
Rex will likely have a long stretch of bragging rights this year. We nearly closed up the site this fall (new jobs/responsibilities have reduced the amount of time that a Jay and I have to spend on this), but decided to at least get through one more football season to get to the ten year mark. We'll see where the future takes us...

Well, Hawkeye Football is in the books for 2012. Looking on the bright side (and we sure could use one right now...) maybe this will give the coaching staff some extra time to evaluate some performances (as in the performance of the coaching staff, not he players) and focus on recruiting in December.
Things didn't go as well as I'd hoped in that last game, and I'm not really big on moral victories, but at least one interesting thing came of the games this week. Going into the final week of this year's Fearless Forecast, we have a tie for first place.

Ok folks, we're just about wrapped up here. One more week of regular season games, and then a week of conference championship games and whatever else I can scrape together to make up 12 total.
On the subject of the number 12, it sounds like the Big Ten is expanding again. The bad news is that it's too late for Iowa to play Maryland this year and eek out another win to make Friday's game a little more meaningful.
On the subject of Friday, remember to get your picks on before Friday morning, because the cutoff is a day early with the Iowa vs. Nebraska game.
On the subject of Iowa and Nebraska, I'd really like to see the Hawks put together at least one complete game on both sides of the ball this season. Doing it to Nebraska would be a nice way to end the season.
Oh yeah - games this week. Big Ten, Pac-12, in-state rivalries, yada, yada, yada...

Deer season ended this weekend, as did my hopes of an outside shot at a bowl game this season. I didn't see any deer this past week, nor did I see much to indicate that we're going to act as much of a spoiler on Friday against Nebraska.
Maybe with it being Senior Day, and JVB's last game he'll say: "Screw playing it safe, it's time to take some chances. What are they gonna do, bench me?" and we'll just ruin Bo Pellini's day...

(Sorry this is a day late folks. It's deer season in Nebraska, and the past four days has been a series of heavily-armed nature walks...) Another week, another 12 games.
Everybody in the Big Ten is playing this week. We have games between ranked teams from the Pac-12, several of our pre-season opponents, and a "who cares" game featuring the blatant copyright violators at Southern Mississippi.

It's worse.
That one was just painful to watch (Dolph thought so too, and who am I to argue with the Voice of the Hawkeyes?), and I can't say I'm expecting the next two weeks to be better.
On the other hand, we seem to have Michigan's number of late, and Nebraska's luck can't hold out forever...

Well, it could always be worse. We could be Massachusetts (0-9), Southern Miss(0-9), Akron(1-9), Colorado State (2-7), or UNLV(2-7). Coincidentally, those are all teams featured in this week's Fearless Forecast (along with 4-5 SMU). We also have five Big Ten games, a Pac-12 matchup, a couple of ranked teams in the Bix XII, Iowa State taking on Texas, and another Central Michigan game.

This has officially gotten old. Iowa football was fun to watch a few years ago, but of late not so much.
Maybe we need more fireworks, or a giant inflatable helmet for the team to run out of... Wait! I know - how about winning the games we're supposed to win, and at least be competitive in games we're not expected to win?
This week our Hated Rival, Purdue comes to town. It sure would be nice to get back to .500...

I'm not a big fan of losing, but you know what I really hate? Losing to Northwestern. Something about those guys just ticks me off... You know what's worse than losing to Northwestern? Losing to Northwestern and Indiana. Let's not do that, ok?
This week we have five Big Ten games (Wisconsin and Northwestern are off this week), a couple games between closely ranked teams, the big Alabama vs. LSU matchup, a couple of service academies squaring off, a few preseason opponents making another appearance, and two teams with a combined record of 1 win and 15 losses.
